Family Planning & Gynecology

Family planning and gynecology are the heart of Women’s Health’s mission. Our clinical services are provided by nurse practitioners -- registered nurses with additional advanced training in a health care specialty area. Our nurse practitioners practice under the rules and regulations of the Nurse Practice Act of Colorado and work in collaboration with our Medical Director, Dr. Lisa Lepine. Nurse Practitioners at Women’s Health provide individualized care. They take the time to assess how your lifestyle affects your health. They work with you to promote wellness and self-care by giving you the information you need to make healthy lifestyle choices. They explain the details of health problems, medications, and other topics to help you fully understand how to take care of your health and yourself. Nurse practitioners perform examinations and also prescribe birth control and other medications.

Women’s Health recognizes that education is a key component of comprehensive, preventive healthcare. Accurate, complete information allows patients to make responsible decisions about their reproductive health and sexuality. Responsible decision-making prevents unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Prevention is always more cost-effective than treatment.

At Women’s Health, we provide a full range of gynecological services for all women -- regardless of age, race, sexual orientation or income level -- in a caring, respectful, and confidential environment.

Appointments are needed for the following services:

  • Annual gynecological exams
  • Pap smears
  • Breast exams
  • Family planning counseling and birth control supplies*
  • Testing and treatment for STIs (sexually transmitted infections)
  • Referrals for free or low-cost mammograms for women who qualify (see below).

*Immediate Access to Birth Control – Typically, hormonal methods of birth control, such as pills, the patch, or injectable methods, are prescribed only after a comprehensive annual exam. However, a three-month supply of these methods can be prescribed after a brief visit, delaying the need for the more extensive exam until convenient for the patient. If immediate access to birth control is needed and a patient cannot come into the Center, we suggest condom use until a brief visit can be scheduled.

Same-day appointments available for the following services  (also available on a walk-in basis --  no appointment necessary, but waiting time may be longer):

  • Emergency contraception (the “Morning-After Pill”) – Birth control taken after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. Now available up to 5 days after unprotected sex, though more effective the sooner taken.
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • Urinary Tract Infection evaluation and treatment, for current patients only.

Services are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with clinic time reserved exclusively for teens during Teen Clinic, 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Se Habla Español: A bilingual staff member is available to assist Spanish-speaking clients. Translation services for other languages may also be available by request.

Cost: Fees are based on an individual client's ability to pay. Family planning services are partially funded by the Title X program of the federal government. Some services provided without charge to those who qualify. To qualify, please bring proof of income such as a tax return, recent paycheck stub, or a letter from employer. Insurance also accepted.
