Are you a teen, parent of a teen, or a young woman interested in GARDASIL, the vaccine for HPV?
What is it? Gardasil is a vaccine to protect against HPV, the human papillomavirus. It is given in a series of three shots and is approved for 9-26 year old girls and women. Gardasil covers HPV types 6,11,16,18 -- the strains of HPV which account for about 70% of cervical cancer cases and 90% of genital warts.
When Can I Receive Gardasil? Ages 19 & Under: A special HPV Vaccine Clinic for Teens is held every 2nd Saturday of the month from 9 a.m.- noon. Ages 20-26: Please call to make an appointment during regular family planning hours. Teens may also receive the vaccine by appointment during regular family planning hours.
How much does it cost? Girls between the ages of 9-18 who qualify for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program will be charged $14.00 per shot for a total of three shots. To qualify for VFC, you must be under 18, eligible for Medicaid or without any health insurance, or are Native American or Alaskan Native.
What if I meet all of
these requirements but I’m over 18? If you are over
18 and on Medicaid, Medicaid will cover all three shots. If you are over
18 and do not have Medicaid or any other health insurance, you may qualify
for the Merck Patient Assistance Program. Please inquire about this
program when you make your appointment.
Any girl or young woman under the age of 18 intending to receive the HPV vaccine is required to get consent from a parent/guardian. To get more information, find out if you qualify for assistance, or to make an appointment for the HPV vaccine, call: 303-442-5160.
